Residential, Day & Evening Treatment Centers for Adults with Eating Disorders
The Evening Treatment Program
The evening treatment program is designed as a four to six week group program, providing structure for three evenings per week (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday). Treatment is provided from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. The evening treatment program is ideal for people who have commitments during the day or who are transitioning from higher levels of care or are functioning in the community, but need more support than their outpatient treatment team can provide. The focus of the groups is on building and expanding success.
Each evening session begins with a goal setting/tracking group that allows clients to set appropriate and specific goals, monitor their progress, and identify and modify any behaviors or factors that may interfere with their treatment and recovery goals. This group is followed by a supervised meal and two additional groups that rotate depending on the night of the week. One evening focuses on problem solving and increasing assertiveness through the use of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and other skills; another evening addresses consolidation of motivation and increasing outside supports; and the last evening focuses on nutrition and the expansion of each client’s repertoire to include risk foods and new situations. Each evening ends with a focus on self-care and preparation for the transition home.
Clients participating in the evening program must be medically and psychiatrically stable, have an outpatient treatment team, and have daytime structure such as employment, school, or volunteer work for at least three hours daily. The case manager will be in weekly contact with the outpatient team and will fax a progress note at the end of each week.
