How we are different
More Clinical Staff per Client:
In order for effective treatment to occur, a meaningful and trusting relationship must form between clinician and client. Our Case Managers carry a maximum caseload of three clients. Our doctoral level therapist’s primary responsibility is meeting with each client individually twice weekly. The therapist works extensively with each client to help them achieve their treatment goals.
Continuity of Trained and Experienced Clinical Staff:
Our professional clinicians remain employed continuously at LHI for years because they are provided with the training and opportunity to engage in meaningful clinical work with clients.
Small Therapeutic Group Size:
Informed professional opinion asserts that group therapy sessions should have a maximum of ten clients. We agree and we adhere consistently to this limit. Small treatment groups allow clients to interact with the group facilitator and other clients as they explore key concepts and skills related to eating disorder recovery.
Rich and Comprehensive Programming:
The richness and consistency of our programming includes skill teaching groups, individual therapy, case management, nutrition education, family therapy and experiential work. All of our treatment modalities are compatible with strong cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavioral therapy, which we passionately believe help our clients maximize their opportunity for a successful treatment outcome.
Experiential Work:
We provide our clients many opportunities to practice their skills in the treatment environment as well as outside the program before they discharge to a lower level of care or to their outpatient treatment team. Such practice helps to ensure that the transition or discharge will be successful.
Supportive Nurturing Environment:
We provide an environment of care that is homelike, warm and inviting, respectful and clean…In short, Non-Institutional.
We Collaborate with the Outpatient Team:
Our Case Managers make weekly contact with the referring therapist or physician to ensure a smooth transition back to the outpatient treatment team upon discharge. Our discharge plan process is detailed and comprehensive and each client leaves with an extensive plan that complements the work that she has done therapeutically and experientially during her course of treatment at Laurel Hill Inn.
Treatment Follow-up:
Prior to discharge, the Case Manager and client schedule a two-week post discharge phone call. The purpose of the follow-up call is to continue to support and encourage the client to stay focused on following their individualized discharge plan.
