Laurel Hill Inn is a private residential program for the treatment of eating disorders, located in the greater Boston area. The setting has the welcoming feeling of an old New England Inn and is tailored to deliver a personalized treatment program to a small group of residents. Our program provides treatment exclusively to adults whose primary diagnosis is anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, or binge eating disorder. The intensive group program relies heavily on cognitive behavioral treatment and dialectical behavioral skills training. An experienced multi-disciplinary staff provides individual, group and family therapy.

A Private Residential Treatment Program for Adults with Eating Disorders

Who We Are

Dr. Dennis Czajkowski has over twenty years experience in treating eating disorders and has worked as the Director of eating disorders services at several Boston hospitals. Dr. Czajkowski received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Virginia at Charlottesville.

In his capacity as Director for inpatient programs, Dr. Czajkowski has become intimately familiar with the challenges faced by persons who are transitioning from the acute care hospital setting to various stages of independent living. He has long recognized the need for continuing and intensive treatment for persons with eating disorders, beyond the hospital setting.

In response to this need, Dr. Czajkowski has assembled a senior and multi-disciplinary team of experts who are responsible for all aspects of the treatment program. This team includes a consulting psychiatrist, medical internist, psychologist, social workers, nutritionist, behavioral therapist and exercise specialist. The team and program offer a full complement of highly effective clinical services.

In order to make the important work of recovery as pleasant as possible, Dr. Czajkowski has chosen a setting that has the comfort and welcoming feeling of an old New England Inn.

Dr. Valerie Gurney joins us as Program Director after serving on the faculty at Cornell University's Weill Medical College. At Weill, she trained primary care providers in how to assess and treat eating disorders within their local medical clinics. During her time at Cornell, Dr. Gurney worked at the Cornell Eating Disorder Program, a nationally recognized program for the treatment of eating disorders. She received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Ohio University in Athens. Dr. Gurney subsequently was a Postdoctoral Fellow in Eating Disorders at Brown University's School of Medicine in Providence, Rhode Island. At Butler Hospital in Providence, she provided outpatient treatment for eating disorders as well as consultation services to inpatient and day hospital programs.

Bill and Linda McDonald have been supplying Bed and Breakfast accommodations in the Greater Boston area for almost a decade. They have renovated several older New England homes as part of that effort and their homes have gained a reputation for their ambiance, character and charm.

Bill has developed, and continues to maintain, group homes for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. These homes serve persons with general mental health disabilities. Linda was a corporate account manager for many years for a major telecommunications company and today operates her own interior decorating business.
