Treatment Philosophy
An eating disorder affects the individual physically, emotionally and socially. It can seriously interrupt the person's life and rob them of those things that make life meaningful. We see the eating disorder and its accompanying behaviors as a method of coping and the person's best attempt at dealing with life's stresses. Our goal in treatment is to help the person identify their feelings and to help them develop alternative methods of coping that do not adversely affect their physical health and well-being.

Our Approach
Laurel Hill Inn’s therapeutic approach is based on Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. CBT teaches ways to alter unhealthy and often, distorted thinking about one’s self, body, food and relationships. CBT is effective in treating a variety of emotional and behavioral problems. DBT is a skill-based therapy that helps one to understand how and why problem behaviors occur and to identify alternative, more healthy ways of coping. DBT seeks balance between opposites, such as acceptance and change and is effective in decreasing one’s anxious thoughts and feelings.
